Clinical/Research Fellowship in Interventional Neuroradiology

One position in interventional neuroradiology will be available at Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, Spain. A high volume of cases including ruptured and non-ruptured aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and dural fistulae, carotid revascularization procedures, acute stroke as well as other endovascular procedures at the level of the head, neck and spine, including vertebroplasties are warranted due to a long and sustained neurointerventional activity during the last 15 years. Our INR department runs the Hospital Clinic and Hospital de Sant Pau units performing an average of 500 therapeutic procedures a year. Two dedicated state-of-the-art neuroangio rooms are available, a Siemens biplane and a Philips monoplane. 

Number of available places During 2018/2019 one place will be available for recently board-certified radiologists, who are members of ESR (including corresponding members). 

Eligibility

1.    This programme applies to radiologists within the first three years
       after certification.

2.    The candidate should wish to become a fellow or subspecialise in interventional
       neuroradiology.

3.    He/She should have excellent knowledge of neuroanatomy as well as basic skills in
       interventional radiology and image interpretation of neuroradiology.

4.    He/She should also have an interest and basic skills in medical database handling and
       scientific presentations and publications.

5.    As the fellow will be involved in clinical work he/she must speak Spanish fluently.

6.    The successful candidate will have to make himself/herself available for a personal
       interview onsite. In special circumstances an interview via Skype would be possible.

7.    ESR membership fees for 2017 must be settled.

Please note that each candidate can only apply for one ESOR fellowship programme and one of the available topics at once. 

Duration and funding The fellowship will start on October 1st, 2018 and will last for twelve months. The fellow has to ensure his/her availability for the exact period stated as any postponement is not possible. The fellow will receive a grant (€23.000,- per year) directly from the training centre. 

Programme structureFour INR staff members will work closely with the fellow not only regarding interventional procedures but also with diagnostic neuroradiological exams, mainly angio-MR and angio-CT studies. Four MR´s and three CT´s are available 24/7 in order to deal with all the neurovascular pathology. Based on the presence of the Cerebrovascular Pathology Units, nominated as one of the best in Spain, research is one of the department's milestones, mainly in the field of stroke and vertebroplasty. The hospital remains as one of the leading centres in acute ischemic stroke management with relevant publications in this field during the last years.

A detailed individual programme is determined at the beginning of the fellowship in consultation with the fellow.

Certification After successful completion of the one-year training the trainee receives a certificate from ESR/ESOR and Hospital Clinic of Barcelona. In order to receive this, the fellow must present a written report about his/her work and activities during the programme.
