Dear Colleagues,
Building on the outstanding success of the ESOR-Bracco Research Fellowships in the past years, it is my great pleasure to inform you that we have started the preparations for the next application rounds for the Bracco Research Fellowships 2027, kindly supported by Bracco Imaging and open for application to young radiologists from all over the world, and the ESOR Advanced Imaging Mentorship (AIM) China programme, kindly supported by Bracco Imaging and Siemens Healthineers, dedicated to fostering the exchange between European and Chinese training centres.
The ESOR Research Fellowships are designed to cultivate robust skills in research methodology. Fellows will learn to:
- acquire and manage imaging or procedural data;
- identify and minimise bias;
- collaborate effectively with statisticians, clinicians, and clinical scientists;
- master relevant post-processing tools; and
- contribute to scientific manuscripts and oral/written presentations.
• Duration: 3 months, to be completed between January and June 2027
• Grant: the best Fellows receive a stipend from ESOR to offset travel and accommodation costs
• Training fee: Provided pro bono by the host centres – an invaluable contribution for which ESOR is deeply grateful.
How to submit a research proposal and enrol as host centre
If your centre is interested, please fill in our Training Centre Enrollment Form with your research proposal and submit it as a .pdf file through our online platform. Each research proposal should include:
- a project title;
- a brief description and objectives;
- the duties and anticipated benefits for the Fellow.
Training centres are welcome to submit not only one but multiple proposals, each covering a different research topic.
As the number of Fellowships is unfortunately limited it may not be possible to assign a Fellow to every training centre; however, signing up your research project for both of the above indicated ESOR training programmes will definitely enhance your chances of becoming an ESOR host training centre. A broad slate of esteemed European institutions is also essential to give applicants a meaningful choice.

Dear Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to inform you that the ESOR Visiting Scholarship Programme Europe will once again take place in 2027.
While the ESOR Visiting Scholars of 2026 will complete their three-month training in the second half of 2026, we have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our ESOR Visiting Scholars of 2025 which we have gathered and published in the ESOR 2025 Annual Report on the ESOR website. I would like to invite you cordially to read through the Scholars’ short reports from page 132 onwards of the 2025 Annual Report.
As you will remember, this Scholarship programme is a win-win situation to both the Scholar as well as the hosting Training Centre: While Scholars are given the outstanding opportunity to get to know another training environment and to kick off a subspecialty interest in radiology, hosting a Scholar is also an enriching experience for any Training Center, often leading to continued international cooperation with the Scholar’s home institution. Additionally, visiting Scholars also provide valuable feedback and input on how to further optimise the host centre’s residency programme.
TARGET GROUP
The Visiting Scholarship Programme is aimed at residents in their 3rd, 4th, or 5th year of training in radiology and will last for three months, starting in the second half of 2027. The Scholar is expected to enter a structured, modular training programme on the chosen topic, and should follow and participate in the core knowledge training programme. This should occur through tutorials and lectures, followed by teaching of routine clinical cases and/or modality techniques and protocols, led by an assigned tutor. Scholars may additionally take advantage of getting to know other activities or structured programmes of the host department according to their interests during their assigned period.
SELECTION PROCESS
The number of applications has increased over the past years, thus confirming the need of this successful programme and also the need of more highly esteemed academic Training Centres. Due to the limited number of Scholarships, we cannot award Scholars to all enrolled Training Centres. Nevertheless, it is naturally very important to give the applicants the opportunity to choose from several highly esteemed centres throughout Europe.
The application for this programme will open in December 2026/January 2027 on the ESOR website via the ESR MyUser area. All applications received will be reviewed by an independent ESOR Evaluation Committee formed by members of the ESOR Steering and Programme Planning Committees. Based on the results obtained during the evaluation process, it will be my duty to select and assign the highest scored candidates from as many different countries as possible to as many different host training centers as possible based on good geopolitical spread, gender balance and balance between the various topics.
Each Scholar will receive a grant as a contribution towards travel and accommodation expenses. The training itself shall be offered for free by the participating training centres and ESOR is very grateful for such a commitment.
We would like to invite you cordially to participate in this great initiative with your training center by enrolling for one or more of the below-mentioned topics. The mandatory prerequisites include an existing modular training programme onsite and an assigned tutor to each modular training.

In this form you will be asked to provide a description of your institution, highlighting your principal areas of expertise. This information will be published on the ESOR website and will help applicants in identifying the most suitable training centre for their educational needs.

PLEASE NOTE:
Due to limited programme places, ESOR cannot guarantee that every Training Centre will receive an ESOR Scholar or Fellow.
Training Centres are welcome, and encouraged, to register for multiple subspecialties and programmes.
Selected programme participants will spend three months at their chosen Training Centre, and must complete their programme by 1st January 2028. Extensions may be available upon request – please contact us in this case.
ESOR’s Scholarships and Fellowships are expected to take place in English. Additional language support is welcomed, but must be agreed upon by both the Training Centre and the participant prior to the beginning of the programme.
Following the successful completion of the programme, the Tutor is required to submit a short written report discussing the activities of the Fellow.
